Orange Wednesday

EE to scrap Orange Wednesday. It’s a sad day for students…

…and movie lovers, of course.

Orange Wednesday, a 2-for-1 cinema perk for Orange customers, has been running for over 10 years, but all great things must come to an end. In February 2015, EE is going to pull the plug on Orange Wednesday and with it the only thing thousands of people – mainly students, let’s be honest – across the UK have to look forward to on a Wednesday night.

In discussion with Business Insider, an EE spokesperson said:

“Orange Wednesday launched over a decade ago and at its peak was a massive success and an iconic promotion,”

“After 10 great years our brand has changed and our customers’ viewing habits have also evolved so it’s time to move on.

“That’s why the final credits will roll for Orange Wednesdays at the end of February 2015. We’re working on new customer entertainment rewards and we’ll provide more detail soon.”

It isn’t all bad news though. As revealed above, EE is going to be launching new customer entertainment rewards in the future, although it’s unclear what these might be. For many people, the scrapping of Orange Wednesday might just be enough to lure them to another network provider, going by some of the irate reactions on EE forums over the past 48 hours.

For those who love the cinema too much to let it go, the only option after February next year will be to fork out for that extra ticket. Frustrating, but that’s life.
